Default 2004 tm with hot water leak..??

Hi friends!
So yesterday I was beginning to pack up and I heard a "hissing sound" from underneath the sink in my 2004 2619 tm. Water was dripping from the insulation surrounding the hot water heater. I think it is the original tank that would make it 16 years old. I did not notice water spewing from the two front valves.

Question: do those tanks corrode out like a house hot water heater? Eventually, just have to replace the whole unit or is there a possible leak from one of the valves.

Any insight would be appreciated.

If you don’t change the anode rod, then yes they are prone to rusting out. And they can wear out over time just like anything else.

If you’re gonna replace it check out the tankless water heaters. There are some that are a direct replacement for the Suburban 6 gallon unit.

A tankless would be pretty cool!

Hi Shane!
I really appreciate the feedback and will research that. A few more questions with your permission:
1) The Suburban tankless would fit in the "slot" or space where the old tank was? Would I need to order additional structural parts for a tankless to fit in for a 2004 tm?
2) Is there winterizing techniques needed for a tankless? Additional maintence concerns with a tankless?

My email is [email protected] and cell # is 806-632-5624 if it would be helpful to send pics or detailed information.

Please know again I really appreciated the experience guidance!!!

Not sure what’s involved in winterizing, but it is designed as a direct replacement for the Suburban water heater you have in place now. Here’s the one I’m familiar with... If/when my water heater craps out, this is going in its place.
