Default water heater R & R

Can anyone give me a ball park figure to have my 1989 6gallon hot water heater replaced at a dealer? It finally died after 21 years

Probably $300-$350 for the unit itself, and my guess is a shop will charge you 2 hrs labor @$90/hr. So you're looking at ~$500.

PPLMOTORHOMES.COM lists the Suburban 6 gallon DSI for $339 plus shipping, as Dave said. A dealer will undoubtedly mark this up, perhaps substantially. For example, Camping World wants $600 for the same unit.

This model (SW6DE), used by TM for the last several years, is gas/electric with automatic lighting of the gas flame when you call for it. The water heater currently in your TM may be gas only with a pilot light, and a new one will cost less ($250 at PPL, about $400 at CW).

If you are handy, installation of either one isn't too hard. If your old heater is non-electric, and you opt for a gas/electric new one, you'll need to run new wires. If you elect to stay with gas only, installation is pretty simple.

So it all depends on what you have now, and what you decide to get.

By the way, you should correct the TM model number in your signature line - it makes no sense as it is.

Oh that is too bad. I kept wanting to see one that was 226 open and 94 closed. Then again it probably would only be 223 open because TM inflates that number.
