Front trim piece on the front top shell
We are on vacation traveling the south to Florida and then to the Outer Banks in NC. While on the way to Florida I noticed an opening in the driver side top shell of my TM. Upon further inspection noticed that the trim piece used to seal the front corner had disappeared on the road. So I ordered a new trim piece and am now attempting to assemble a plan to put it back on the TM. Does anyone have the knowledge to assist me in putting the new piece on? When my TM was hit 2 years ago the RV repair shop put the new on the passenger side of my unit but I can put the one on the drivers side. It looks simple enough of just putting it on the unit and caulking the outside edges to the unit. My thought is do I need to caulk underneath before putting the piece on and caulking around the edges?

Both of mine are cracked pretty badly. I have the replacement parts, here’s how I plan to install them...
Clean any sealant/silicone/gunk from the area. Use 2 sided Eternabond tape to seal the order, too to bottom. Put a heavy bead of 3M 4200 on the underside of the edges of the trim piece. Install the trim piece, press firmly to seat it on the Eternabond tape, and smoosh the 4200 put the sides. Tool the smooshed 4200 along the edges. Once it’s dry, that corner will never come off and never leak into the cabin!
In case you can’t tell, I’m a fan of 3M 4200 and Eternabond tape.

Mary -
Were you able to get a white trim piece from TM? When I did mine a year or so ago, the factory had switched over to black trim, and could not supply a white piece.

I ordered mine last year and got white ones... I assume they are all the same across the model lineup?

Hi Bill,
I ordered mine on Monday July 2nd from TM and it is white. That is what I received at the Cape Woods campgrounds in Buxton, NC on the Outer Banks.

The Air Command that I replace the old one with is a black unit and kind of gives my TM an air of distinction! :-) Yet the leaks that were caused by the bump on the tree limb have had an impact on what I need to repair. :-(

I resealed a number of areas on my TM a couple of years ago. The silicone I used is now very dirty and almost impossible to clean. It seems to have acted like glue to dirt. I take it that this is not a problem with 3M 4200 silicone, is that assumption correct?

3M 4200 isn’t a caulk or silicone it’s an adhesive. So while it’s wet it’s very sticky. Use it to seal 2 pieces together.
