Default US Cross Country Trailmanor Gas $ problem / solutions

US Gas $ prices have gone up 50% already this year and likely the cost will be 100% higher this late summer and early fall.

Problem: Likely $4000 for Gas Southwest US to Northeast US and back instead of $2000 last year.

Possible Solutions:
#1. Exchange or Swap or Rent an RV, Motorhome or Campervan.
Owners exchange use of their RV, Motorhome or Campervan with your Trailmanor and Toe vehicle in the US and elsewhere in the WORLD if desired.
Take a look at membership in this organized Exchange/Swap/Rent web site
hyperlink: https://www.rvworldwide.com

#2. Exchange or Swap or Rent with a Friend, Family member or a willing Trailblazer Club or Trailmanor owner Member. The protocol of rvworldwide.com could be used to seal the deal.

I felt my duty as a working man was to make money.
I feel my duty now as a retired man is to save money.

My saying goes like this: save money, Save Money, SAVE MONEY!

Propose: Use my 2002 TM 2619 with 2005 Tundra in San Diego, CA for the use of your TM model and TOE vehicle in the Syracuse, NY area.

Contact me if interested. Art of CelNArt

Art -

Interesting idea. I face the same cross-country issue that you mention - I'm headed from Phoenix to Portland, Maine. I'm hoping that you are using California gas prices in your calculation, and that gas prices elsewhere never match California's.

My current thought is that I have to drive 2500 miles one way at 15 mpg, and as a SWAG, average gas price may be $6. That works out to $1000 one way. Of course, gas prices may be higher than $6. Right now we are at about $4.50 in Phoenix, and prices in the midwest are always lower - often a lot lower - than Phoenix. GasBuddy and a light foot will help.

If you end up making the trade, how will you get yourselves from San Diego to Syracuse? Drive? Fly? Train? Unless you hitchhike, you still have to pay that. I have no idea where air fares are headed, but given that airlines will experience the same fuel cost hikes that we see, they can only go up.

Good luck - to both of us.

Bill

Gas prices are actually falling again. I don't expect Covid lows, but also don't expect doubling.

In addition, the whole purpose of rv'ing is to drive and see stuff. . . .

As of March 26 2022: try our gasoline prices.
$Cdn 1.96/L which translates to $USD 5.94/gal. We have the highest gas taxes in Canada, I believe in all of North America.

Compared to
LA CA: $5.34/gal
Blaine WA: $4.09/gal

Default 2022 West Coast to East Coast and Back

Thank You Bill for your comments today and past days. Always a pleasure to read your posts.

I may be able to fly Space Available to the NE area on military hop free or purchase 2 RT air tickets then family can help with transport to the swap RV toad and toe vehicles.

I feel long distant train travel is not medically or physically secure and pricey.

We hope another NE couple feels as we do.

Hope Gas $ goes down but hedging our bets.

P.S. SW to NE RV delivery is ANOTHER OPTION I am considering!

CelNArt RE your PM.

Yes, electric vehicles are the way to go. If things had happened a little differently I'd be driving a tesla truck. Hopefully my Outback will be my last gasoline car. Right now going long distance in an electric requires a little planning than a gas. But less than it did when cars first became a thing.

I don't mean to start a fight, but...

...How is an electric vehicle a solution to a cross courty trip?

Would be a significant fuel savings. And if you're staying at electrical hook up parks, it's nearly free fuel when you plug in.

Even if you're boondocking, I'd bet generator would be cheaper than filling up a gasoline car.

Pulling a trailer, you'd have to stop every 100 miles. Then you'd have to plug into a 20A source to charge up for probably 24-48 hrs.

Everyone here says you only use an extra gallon per 100 miles.

If that's true, I don't see an electric vehicle losing 2/3 of its range pulling a TM. In my car losing a gallon per hundred makes me lose 4 gallons, or about 120 miles at top MPGs. That's a quater.
