Tow vehicle is a 2004 Mercury Monterey minivan with a 4.2 V-6; trailer is a TM2619; on a recent cross country trip (Florida to California) we averaged 16.3mpg overall for the trip driving 65mph with the a/c on and lightly loaded.

I get about 18mpg normally and 15mpg towing. That might be low 1mpg as my odometer is off due to larger tires. The best the truck ever got was 22mpg when it was new with small tires and no lift.

I recently added a Super Charger and mileage is unchanged if I drive with the same temperment. I will be towing for the first time next week. I'm hoping for no engine ping under that load.

I also added a second transmission cooler if anyone is interested. It's an easy install. Engine is a 3.4l as noted in the picture. 180hp stock, roughly 240hp with the SC.

After a couple of years trying to get a handle on mileage numbers (and using a ScanGuage for calculations) I have decided it is not possible to make an accurate comparison. I tow with a Toyota Tacoma 6. At 60 mph with the trailer, the mileage is almost always in the mid 16 mpg. But the comparison breaks down when not towing, as I am now in the 75 mph range. If I keep it at 70 without the trailer, the mpg is 20+, up to 22 or so. It would be interesting if I had the patience to drive without the trailer at 60 mph for a tank, but that will never happen!

I have a jeep CRD like AllenJ has. We get between 18 and 19 towing and mid 20's not towing. We stay at under 63 and compute our mileage by dividing fuel by miles. This average has stayed steady pulling our 2720SL for about 6,000 miles.

2004 Ford Expedition (not sure of gear ratio - probably 3.73) with 5.4 V8 gets around 17 mixed city/freeway driving while not towing. Vehicle is stock - no mods.

Recently returned from a trip from here (Johnson City, TN) to Arizona and back. In semi-mountainous terrain we get around 13-14 towing. In the flatlands we got around 15 while towing. In the western mountains, around 12. Towing in the flatlands (Oklahoma, Texas Panhandle) towed in overdrive - all other towing was with overdrive off.

TM is a 2007 3124KS. I've never weighed it loaded for a trip but I estimate 4500-4800 pounds.

Thanks to all for keeping this thread going. When I get a chance I'm thinking of organizing this data for quick review and comparison. Please try to include your engine size when posting. There are many post now without this critical info which will make the mpg info vague and difficult to compare.
Also remember to include any changes from stock, such as larger or smaller tires, different gearing, superchargers, headers, etc...basically anything that would alter your mileage from a stock version of your TV.
Also advise if your mileage is from your computer or actual calculated.

We've only had the truck a short time and towed with it 230 miles last weekend. Slightly hilly terrain (no mountains) 4 passengers and lots of cargo (including a kayak). We got a shocking 17.7MPG. We filled up when we started out and when we returned, so that is 100% towing mileage. I have no idea what it gets non-towing yet.

We are going on a 800 mile trip next weekend with some mountains and will report back.
OK.....time to report back after our 800 mile vacation.

Our true mileage (calculated at each fill-up and considering the entire trip) is 16.6 towing. Again, it must be stated that this was going up CA Hwy 1 with lots of hills (including grades up to 10%) and many-many stops. We were also loaded to the max and ran the AC all of the time. Top towing speed 60MPH.

This mileage stuff is far from a perfect science and it has been my experience that mileage can vary greatly with a lot of differing conditions. For instance, the 1st part of our trip north, we were bucking headwinds of 30MPH and our mileage (at fill-up in Monterey) was 15.2. The last part of our trip, we were cruising down CA Hwy101 (no wind) and got 17.9 on the last fill-up (arriving home).

I also found that I am quite happy with our 3.23 gear ratio (I didn't think that I would be). It seems very comfortable for this truck and the amount of trailer that we have. I was concerned about pulling grades but found that it pulled a 10% grade comfortably @ 35MPH @ 3500RPM at the hardest part (part of the time was in 2nd @ 45MPH). It pulls 6% grades @55MPH in 3rd gear(occasionaly down-shifting to 2nd but maintaining 55MPH).

The family that was with us, had a new Dodge RAM Maxi-Cab 5.7L V8 with 4:11 gears and had to go up the 10% grade in 2nd gear (1st gear @35MPH was 4600RPM) and could not keep up with us (slightly heavier travel trailer). When he was forced into 1st gear, he had to slow to 25MPH to keep from over-revving the engine. This scenario was the same going down the other side. I was able to keep it @ 35MPH in 1st gear with moderate braking. The Dodge had to stay @ 25MPH in 1st and didn't dare go down in 2nd for fear of over-heating the brakes.

Having said all that, if and when we move up to a larger trailer, I will change the gearing accordingly.

a-CA state law says 55 MPH on freeways with trailer--because of all the talk about tire problems I never travel over 57MPH. So far so good. (unless passing)
b - Going to the Rally in Petaluma next week will ck MPG again.

Hope this helps.
MPG Update:

A: Went to Petaluma Rally--15.2 MPG (San Diego-Petaluma)
B: Went to Pomona RV Show --23.5 (without TM) (San Diego - Pomona)
