Default New owner...new member...cleaning question

First I'd like to say what an amazing community you all have created here. I have been lurking for some time while researching our next camper.

Yesterday I drove to Louisville and picked up our new to us 2009 2916. So exciting.

It is in excellent condition but as you can see in the attached picture, there is black mold like streaking on some of the silicone joints.

Have you all found an effective way at cleaning this up? We are going to spend some time today getting it in top shape for this Spring and Summer

Thanks

Dave.

I use a Soft Scrub with bleach product and lots of elbow grease. Some of the black mold that exists on window seals may not ever come out. It has impregnanated the rubber material.

I have found with two Trailmanors that 50 foot clean is normal. If it looks clean from 50 feet, I am happy. Scrubbing caulk too aggressively removes the caulk rather than the dirt, and that creates more problems.

It is on the outside of the trailer- so it must get a lot of sunlight. If directsunlight does not get it out, then I am guessing nothing will. It is, as someone else says, impregnated into the silicone. I would not worry about it.

My first thought is it may be time to replace the caulk and this time use a caulk that specifies it has mold retarder in it. There is no cleaning it off or out. There are many postings about how to check for loose caulk, how to remove it and even how to put the new on. It is part of normal maintenance and probably the one project nobody likes to do.

The big box stores sell a plastic tool made for removing caulk IF that is the route you go, it is quite inexpensive. If the only issue is that it s dirty you may want to live with it unless you like caulking...I can see why it might really grate at some folks.
Have fun.

That littler camper looks ready for some fun.
As to the mold, a year or so back I had to remove some from inside my pup camper and found a product called Mold Armor. It worked great on the inside canvas of the pup. Home Depot sells it.

Hi, Welcome and congrats on the new camper, if you do remove the old caulk try WD40 on the old caulk rubbing it in to loosen it off. A RV store owner passed that on to me a few years ago.

I used olive oil to soften caulk. Had to leave it on for a while, but it make it easier to remove. John
