Ceiling Wear Mark Paint Match

Many of us have experienced movement of the shells while under tow, which has created a wear mark on the ceiling of the inner shell. In the past a few posters have used Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy Biscuit color as a close match. We tried using that particular paint with unsatisfactory results.

My wife Jeri is an oil paint artist with considerable experience at mixing color. A few weeks ago she brought her paints out to the TrailManor and created a good color match. Next it was off to
Home Depot where we had them mix a sample size container of her color in semi-gloss. The result is a near perfect match. She touched up the ceiling wear mark as well as a few spots on the wall next to the entry door. I have been unable to find the touched up spots on the wall, the color match is that good. Feel free to copy the formula on the top of the can and bring it to your local HD and have them mix up an 8 oz color sample.

One caveat – we assume all TrailManor interior paint is the same color as ours. Before you attempt to touch up a large area we suggest you test any paint sample you procure in an inconspicuous area for color match.

Jeri is indeed a gifted artist. I've seen her work at exhibitions, and it is beautiful. So when we saw the results she and Dick obtained in their TM, we had to try it.

In our case, we decided to try a slightly different sheen - satin instead of semi-gloss. As Dick's pictures show, they used a top-of-the-line tint base called Behr Marquee. Our local Home Depot guy told us that Behr doesn't make Marquee in satin, but he could use Behr Ultra, which is similar. We agreed to try it. Not surprisingly, a different base meant that the color code had to be adjusted slightly, and the computer modified it automatically.

Our results were just like those experienced by Dick and Jeri. Once the paint had dried, it was difficult to find the places where it had been applied. The lighting in my picture makes it appear that the color on the far end of the ceiling was different from the color near the camera. Not so - we spot painted, but did not cover an area. The picture also shows a horizontal stripe across the ceiling - this is the UHMW tape we applied long ago to prevent a rub mark. We elected not to pull it off, since we weren't sure the results would be as good as Dick and Jeri experienced. If we were going to do it again, we would probably remove the tape. But no matter what, the results were amazing.

Incidentally, when the Home Depot paint guy told us that Behr doesn't make Marquee in Satin, what he meant was "We don't have any in stock at the moment." The Behr website clearly shows Marquee Satin. But it is nice to know that the specific tint base is not critical to the results.

My feeling is TM used the same color for many years.

When I was in LA, I dropped by Custom RV where they have some new TM. They now use what looks like a melamine laminate in all the walls and ceiling. It is whiter, but won't wear like the painted aluminum. Repair and filling holes will require a new method, if it is necessary.

Very thankful I found this post. I also need to paint the interior and ceiling and the section up above the toilet and sink.

So I went to HD had a sample mixed Marquee (satin). Tried it on a spot on the ceiling, an hour later I can't find the spot. Incredible!
