Default New modifications

I've been doing some small things with my TM and wanted to share. I replaced the door handle and deadbolt. My brother made me a plate for the inside since the TM door is not as thick as a house door. I used the Kwikset Smartkey version. That way my house key opens the camper as well.
I also swapped out the factory faucet for a single handled version from Ikea. I ran into a problem with the connections, I found a fitting which allowed me to go from 5/8 to 3/8 connections. Love the folks at ACE hardware, they always seem to find what you need. Connecting was a bear, but it went in and the fittings are nice and snug. No leaks when I pressurized the system, but I was low on water, so I'll fill my tank and repressurize the lines again before my first trip of the season. I added a stereo to the camper and that's when I discovered I have a short in one of the speaker wires. That will have to wait for another time. I also added awhile back a cigarette plug for charging up those electronic items. I still have ideas for some more additions, but we're in no hurry today.

Default Speaker Wire Short

Check the speaker wire as it enters the cabinet that houses the speaker. In my unit, the left side speaker (as you face the cabinet) had a staple sticking through the wire sheathing causing a short. The staple was tucked in the far corner and too difficult to see. The only way I found it was by gently pulling up on the wire, allowing the staple and wire to free up. The short was corrected once I removed the staple.

Another source of speaker failure is in the bullet-type connectors inside the lower refrigerator bay. Every now and then my left side speaker would cut out. Moving the bullet connector caused the speaker to cut in and out.

Good luck with your trace.

We just installed the radio, all went well except one wire was off a speaker. We also installed a switch to power on the radio. Hope you find the short.l

I wanted to install a cigarette light outlet almost at the spot you installed your's, since I would be right there installing the radio. I was trying to figure out a method to stiffing the 1/8" paneling. I like how you did it.

Joyce did not think we needed another cigarette light outlet, since there is one in the TV antenna outlet just a foot away. So I installed the radio on/off switch with a blue LED right there.

But with cell phones and all the other 12V stuff, one is not enough. But I still think another outlet is needed. Maybe on the wall or on cabinets on the stove side?

Tentcamper,

Hopefully the good folks at TM either adds an extra plug or adds that as an option. If I had been smarter, I would have asked for them to add it since it was still under assembly at the factory.

Commador47,

I will take a good look at the area you mentioned. Thanks for the info.

Looks great, especially the faucet. What was there before? I thought there would have been two holes in the counter from the old faucet? Your brother should go into business - looks sharp.

Yes there were two holes drilled into the top. I have not figured what I'll fill/cover the right hole with. Maybe just a blank plug that secures from the bottom. I have contemplated making the hole larger and having a cup of some sort sit in it. That could be used for tooth brushes and such. The solution will come to me eventually, I'll also accept suggestions.

If you want more 12 volt plugs, these are nice.

For the hole, how about a soap dispenser?

A coworker suggested that too, but I'm more inclined to make it larger and use it for tooth brushes and such. I have the soap dispenser in one of my bathrooms and I'm not that impressed with it. Thanks for the suggestion, we'll always listen.

I didn't even see the hole in your photo. So much for my eyes....I really like the convenience of a one handle faucet.
