Mattress cover mildew and cleaning

Does anyone know if the mattress cover can be put in a washing machine? We recently discovered dampness and mildew on the underside of the mattress after camping in an humid and rainy environment. Could it be from condensation? Thanks

It can be washed, cold water and air or short bursts of warm air to dry the cover. Folks find the covers tend to shrink some after washing.
