Here is something to think about. What about the spray on foam cleaners that are used on spot cleaning carpet? Spray on, let dry, then vacuum.
I think they make for upholstery also. Would something like this work?
The shop vac could be used to remove. Would have to cover couch, etc with some plastic for the overspray. It is a possibility.

Put alcohol in a spray bottle. Spray enough on the curtain to wet it but not make it soggy. Do an inch or two of width from top to bottom of curtain. Suck it out with the vacuum.

Repeat until completed.

Do not smoke.
