Default Ultimate Public Campground Project?

We are looking for online resources as we plan our first TM road trip. We want to camp in state parks, BLM, NP, as much as possible. Anyone have experience with the website ultimate campgrounds.com? What about the app they are selling? We will take maps and a new atlas with us as well. Thanks.

It worked ok. We tried it last year. We load POI into our garmin and this is just one of them. We also stay at PassportAmerica and again, the campgrounds have put so many restrictions, I wonder if it worth it. Here is where we get the POI and found out they work best for us and free.

We tried to run some of the campgrounds on the Ultimate and was unable to find them. Maybe I was not diligent enough. I did not renew.

I would look at the state and national parks websites. They will give you good free information as well as maps and brochures on the areas you're planning on visiting. Once you find a park just click the reservations link and you can see the dates and prices. The national parks reservations will cover BLM sites.
good luck and happy camping.

In addition, some city parks have campgrounds that are worthwhile. We stumbled on one in Fruita, Colorado a while back. A really nice little campground, where we have stayed several times. And it was free!

The City of Lyons, Colorado, had a really nice one on the St Vrain River until it washed away in the September mega-flood. Lyons is rebuilding it.

I'm not sure how you find them, but don't discard City Parks without a close look.

Allstays.com tends to pick up city and county parks that have CG's. We found one on the Miss river for this years trip that way.

Texas DOT publishes a useful brochure "Texas Public Campgrounds" that lists all the non-private campgrounds in the state including city, county, state and federal!

The only problem I have with it is that the campgrounds are listed alphabetically by the name of the nearest municipality (which can be a tiny town) so it's very difficult to use it to figure out "OK, we're going to Clifton, what public campgrounds are nearby or on the way?" One of my retirement projects is gonna be to index this brochure by lat & long so that I can load the campgrounds into mapping software...

It can be downloaded here: http://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot...ampgrounds.pdf
