I believe it was one inch. It came with holes that accepted the 2-inch-wide U bolts.

Another way to bolt it through the floor....... You could just cut a piece of 1/2" or 5/8" thick plywood to size and use 5" long 5/16" bolts & nuts and large flat washers (penny washers) on each side to go through the floor then screw the battery box down to the plywood (again, using penny washers). Put a piece of plastic cutting sheet between the batteries and the bottom of the battery box to protect against chafing on the screw heads.

Have you looked at the impact that battery move will have on your tongue weight? My 2005 2720 has a tongue weight of 340 # with that 2 6V batterieis on the tongue. That's a 160# sitting up there that you are thinking about transferring to the rear compartment. In my case the trailer would be pretty unstable like that.

I did, however, mount my LFP batteries in the rear compartment using aluminum angle iron screwed into the floor around the four sides of the battery. the battery is then held down by threaded rod through bolted through the floor and anchored with aluminum bar stock underneath.

Thanks for the reply Jim. The stock battery location on the 2720QD is in the rear compartment. I'm not moving the weight from the tongue to the rear, just increasing it a bit. I believe the weight of each T-105 is 62 lbs. Not certain of the weight of my current battery, but I would estimate about 40 lbs. Its definitely a weight increase, but its a modification that numerous folks have successfully made without issue.

Thanks again,
Todd

I took a different approach in my 2720SL, taking the lead from former long-time member Mike Laupp. I filled that cavity in with foam, which in my TM was on the right side of that compartment, and put a stiff piece of sheet metal over the entire cavity. I then used that Allied box Wayne referred to above, to perfectly fit 2 Trojan 6-volt batteries, and which spanned way beyond that cavity.

To secure them, I put a U-bolt through the metal plate they came with, then a small plywood scab, and then through the floor along each of the shorter sides of the box. On the underside of the TM, I put a metal plate over the bolts to act like a giant washer. Then through the loops of those U-bolts, along each of the shorter sides of the battery box, I looped in the hooks of a ratchet strap that goes over the box and lid.

Until earlier this year when I switched to lithium, that worked without issue for 15+ years and tens of thousands of miles with ~150lbs of lead acid batteries. I put the lithium in the same exact spot, but they're half the weight.

These are 2 really good threads on this topic:
