Default Rust starting on bed supports

Today we put the trailer up to get ready for a trip. While I was pulling the front bed out I noticed rust beginning to form on the bed supports. As of now it is just some little spots in the white paint.

I know that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". I would like to clear this up right away.

What is the best way to go about it?

Tom

Hi Tom (with the same last name as me)

A few months ago, had a couple of small rust spots on ours. I just used some rust converter and after it did it's thing, top coated it with a 2 - 3 coats of white paint. Has not come back so far.

I repainted all of our bed supports, the front ones are starting to show a bit of rust again. I plan on sanding them down again where they are showing rust and repainting them again, with several layers of Rustoleum. I did the rear ones a year later than the front ones, and they are still OK. I removed the rear ones completely from the TM and stripped them down to bare metal. I also used a rust removal chemical on the rear ones that I didn't use on the front ones.

I think that if I have to do this again, I'll take them into a body shop and see what it would cost me to have them sandblasted and repainted. It took a really long time for me to strip them down, and at this point in my life, my free time is worth it (depending on what kind of a bid I get).

I find that using a bit of sand paper and White Epoxy Appliance Spray Paint from lowes works well and is a very close match! Their Epoxy Black is great for the frame!
