Default Happy Trails Blog

So I recently stumbled across this link here on the Forum of someone rebuilding an old TrailManor…

https://www.trailmanorowners.com/for...ad.php?t=10660

I'm intrigued. I bought a 2000 2720SL last summer that needs a bit of work, possibly a LOT of work. And this blog looks like exactly what I need! Except one thing; most of the pictures don't load! So does anyone have this saved anywhere with ALL the pictures, or can you tell me if the pictures are loading for you and I'm just doing something wrong?

Thanks!

I came across this a few years ago and made sure I saved it as a favourite:

I think this is what you want.

Shane, I think you found the tattered remains of a tale of extensive repairs by a member named Happy Trails. He did an amazing job with his old TM, documented it in great detail on some hosting web site, and posted a link to the story. Over the next span of time, Happy Trails disappeared from our membership rolls. We still had the benefit of his story - until the hosting site either disappeared, or deleted his story. A number of us tried to recover pieces, but our member MisterP was the only one that was able to find much, and there are big gaps in what he found. All else is gone.

Larry, you have pulled up a link to a similar restoration by a member who signed in as MariaG, who joined the forum in 2007, and is now carried as a Registered Guest. Her last login was in 2019. In other words, she is no longer active. It wouldn't be a bad idea for someone to grab a copy of her blog, before the current host disappears, as all the others seem to do. I would be willing to put it in the Library.

Any takers?

Bill

Ah, right. I should have opened the pdf before replying! Now I remember coming across the Happy Trails Blog, but found more photos on Maria's blog.

A picture of the Pocket Stop Kit is in Maria's blog, about 2/3's down the page I linked.

In Happy Trails blog, he describes using contact cement. I'm pretty sure the factory uses a polyurethane glue (Original Gorilla Glue), but I'm also pretty sure that is intended to bond the Styrofoam to the aluminum skin. The advantages to the polyurethane glue is that it is waterproof and, in fact, water makes the bond stronger. I don't know that it would work very well for bonding aluminum to aluminum though. I think TM relies on that fact that the aluminum is a perimeter frame and is secured to the skin with the trim pieces. Given all the vibration in travel, I don't know of any glue that would hold aluminum to aluminum except for an automotive panel bond adhesive. That stuff if PRICEY!

As I reviewed Maria's blog, it was an amazing project full of great and helpful detail. The only thing I would definitely are the curtains. Some one had done something similar in our TM before be bought it, and the screws were pulling away, even pulling the skin away from the Styrofoam.

We got a bag of 1-1/2" Z clips:
https://www.amazon.com/1-1-Clips-20-.../dp/B001DSY63U

We then made valances:

However, this is probably not what you are looking for. I added this only because Maria had a different idea than I had in her blog.
