Why replace the trim? Isn't Eternabond enough?

Yes. The trim serves no purpose other than how it looks.

Technically, the trim DID serve a purpose in the original state - to cover the unsealed seam between the two half of aluminum skin, which then gave a place to lay the sealant down each side.

But after Eternabond has been laid down, you are right, there is zero reason to replace the trim. I think I tossed mine.
