The good news is the switch for the WH is pinned in the off position. Were currently in a full hook up site but just decided to leave it that way and run it on gas as we always have. Do most of you go ahead and switch it on whenever plugged in the shore power? It would save on propane. I'm worried I might forget to turn it off since I dont have to mess with anything in the outside panels currently unlike our previous pop up camper.

Yes we always turn on the electric when we have an elec site. We don't run the propane then. We just figure let the CG pay for our hot water. I have a RED Medical band I hang out of the water heater box to remind me when we use the electric water heater

But make sure the first thing you do when taking it down is turn off the the switch. Or you may burn out the element when you connect power at home.

Okay thanks. I couldn't stand it and switched over to electric after the 2nd day. Ran that way for two days and the water stayed nice and hot. I just left the panel open. I'll come up with something like the red band to remind me. Thanks again

Some folks have installed an inside switch (in series with the outside one) and a pilot light on the sink apron. Not hard if you are electrically inclined. More elaborate is a relay that will automatically switch the heater off when shore power is disconnected (outlined in my Tech stuff album).
