Water heater not turning on using propane.
When using the switch at the sink to turn on the water heater I see the red light and can hear it firing and then a few seconds later the light turns off and water heater does not light.
I am thinking that I need to get in there and do some clean up and maintenence. I know it's a suburban 6 gallon water heater. Does anyone have a check lost of things that need to be maintained and cleaned and perhaps directions on how to do it? I checked the annode rod and electrical element and all good there.
Thanks in advance.

If it’s lighting the pilot and then turning off, check the thermocouple. It gets carboned up and doesn’t sense the heat from the pilot light and shuts the whole thing down.

Though if it has electronic ignition, it doesn't have a pilot light. Would be great for you to put what model and year TM you have in your signature, coralcruze.

If you search the tech library section, you would have found this manual.

Looking at the table of contents... I can't find anything about maintenance and cleaning combustion chamber or thermocouple.

That's exactly what I think is happening. Trying to find how to do this is proving a bit tough at the moment.

Shrimp Burrito- Fair enough. But wouldn’t it still have a thermocouple to prove that it lit?

Dave can correct me if I am wrong but I think that there is no pilot and just electric ignition and flame.

That's true but the flame won't stay lit without the thermocouple. That's the protection if the flame goes out, the thermocouple will shut off the gas.
