Next Best Tire
What's the next best tire after Maxxis that people have experience with?
I cannot get Maxxis less than a year old in my area (Austin, Tx.) Nobody stocks them, the closest wholesaler that the Maxxi people pointed me to says theirs are at least 1 year old, and discount tire will not guarantee the age if they have to order them..
Any good luck with others? We take pretty long trips where there will be 500+ mile days in the summer a long way from home.
thanks,

Have you tried Tirerack? They might have high enough volume where they have recent manufacture dates, and they will ship anywhere, including directly to your installer.

Interesting. Amazon is getting into the tire biz too. They carry the Maxxis 8008s in the desired 225 75/R15 LRE size, and several Q&As and reviews say that the date code was within 1-2 months of delivery. That's pretty impressive given it takes a month to get to LA from Southeast Asia by boat.

I like the Towmaster (Greenball) tires from Costco. I asked the installer to pick through the tires for the newest ones and I got tires that were less then 3 month old.

I bought Maxxis tires from my local Discount Tire store for my TM, truck, and utility trailer. They didn't stock them. However, all of the tires were less than 1 year old.

"E"
My Sears couldn't get them nor do they carry any load range "E" tires..Oh well.
I had decided to order them through Amazon but they won't get here before I need to leave on a trip so it looks like Carlisle for me as I don't trust the existing ones to make the trip..

I've got Carlisle's on mine, and have had really good luck with them. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. Plus, if you ever needed warranty work on them while traveling, every Discount Tire carries them.

I too had load range E Carlisles before my current Maxxis tires, and I too had no problems. I replaced them due to age.
