Question Fridge Travel Latch

I have looked everywhere. Can someone help. I have a broken travel latch on my 2001 2619 dometic RM 2333 fridge. Does anyone know where I can get such a simple small plastic piece?

Leon they no longer make this particular part. They were of no help.

I was hoping some dealer somewhere might have spare parts.

Dave,

This sounds like the same fridge as in my 2002. I stopped in a Camping World store and they looked it up and could have ordered the part for me. I forget the price, but with shipping I thought it was a bit steep for a cheap little piece of plastic, so I made one.

I simply put a 90-degree bend in an aluminum tent rope tension adjuster. I am sure I have the technical name of it wrong. It replaces the taughtline knot many of us learned as boy scouts. It was quick and it works well to keep door closed.

I will take photos later today and e-mail them to you. If it is what you need, I should have another rope tensioner that I would be glad to send you. It took a couple tries for me to get it the bend in just the right spot. If you decide to go this route, it may be best if I sent it to you with the bend in it.

Try the site below and plug in this part number (I got it from my RM 2333 manual) 2931140012
http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/r...ator-parts.htm

It suggests a replacement with a different part number. Maybe worth calling their 800 number first.

Default Pictures of my latch

Dave,

This is the home made latch that I spoke of earlier in this thread. Looking at it, I am thinking I probably did use the original bolt, but inserted a friction type washer to help keep it in its open or closed position. It's not pretty in these close up photos, but in use it really does not look bad. It works and it won't break like the plastic original.

I have an extra rope tensioner I would send you. PM me with an address if you want it.

Great fix!

I keep all sorts of weird shaped parts in our screw/nail/hook/whatever drawers out in the garage, and sometimes they really do come in handy.

Hey, whatever works, works.

I've been using a plastic drapery slide for the starting push button on our washing machine for about 3 years now....it's held up much better than the original part.

Necessity is the mother of invention.
