WDH Requirements Volvo XC90 T6 ?
I posted this question in Towing but no response so hoping I'm not breaking the rules to try again here...
There was a post by a guy that has a 2016 Volvo XC90 and his TrailManor. He was glowing about how good it was towing it. That brings me to my question.
We have a 2018 Volvo XC90 and just put a deposit on a beautiful 2007 TM 2619. The current owner has it all rigged up for a weight distributing hitch system and that's what he uses when towing with his minivan.
For others out there with XC90's do you tow vanilla or do you use a WD system? If it's the latter, what hitch do you have mounted on the Volvo? Since the re-design in 2015, even with the specs saying 5,000# and 500#, Curt and DrawTite dropped their WD-rated hitches because Volvo told them to stop offering them.
Do I just resign my desire to go TM, or is their a hitch that will work with the XC90 T6? Please let me know how you are rigged so I can buy my hitch and go get my trailer.
Thanks!

if you are within specs 5000/500 you may be fine without a wdh,, many people on the forum tow with minivans , highlanders etc that have a 5k or under tow rating without a wdh. I personally towed with a tacoma (#6400) without , then got an anderson 3324 . i switched because the amount of mountaneous areas etc,,what is you current concern or is you tow vehicle rated at 5k with a wdh

Just reading a lot of posts, it seemed that nearly half of the owners used a WDH and the folks we are buying from have that. If we don't need it, it will save nearly a hundred pounds of stuff that he's throwing into the deal.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike -
Before deciding you don't need a WDH, it would be well to read the two posts on the topic in the Trail Manor Technical Library. These posts will tell you what a WDH does and does not do, and how to tell if your particular rig needs one. Tow rating is less important than wheelbase and rear-axle-to-hitchball distance.

I ordered this WDH (weight distributing hitch) today. I was going to use the WDH from my Surveyor travel trailer...but it was just too heavy (weight rating). If you're using a WDH that is far above the tongue weights of your trailer it will make things ride like a log truck and in my opinion has the potential to cause safety issues.
Anyway...I was pleased to find this. Your Volvo may benefit from one of these.

+2 on the ride and safety. We use a reese 600 with a range between about 350 and 700. Works well. I like a WDH for its better ride and less noise.
