Default Awning won't retract completely.

I have a Fiama and when it gets near closing the arms droop a bit and jam up the pieces. I have to push up a bit on them so they will pop in the case without rubbing. I don't see an obvious way to adjust this. Anyone else have that problem before?

The only time I had a problem was when I didn't put the legs in exactly right. The pivot has to be just right for it to fit into the outer piece or the thing doesn't roll up properly.

If you have Mike and Kelly's 2720 Manual, see page 27. If you don't, you can get a copy at
http://www.tmphotos.org/Mike%20and%20Kelly.pdf.

I had a problem similar to yours and discovered that I hadn't closed the legs properly. Once I turned the ground brackets under, tucked them under the center tab on the case, and snapped the left and right leg ends all the way in, the awning fit smoothly, all the way into the case.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. My problem appears to lie with the large legs that support the awning. I read the instructions again on storing the support legs and I'm confident they are not interfering AFAIK. The issue seems to lie where the elbows of the large legs need to tuck into the casing. They seem to droop and hit the bottom of the TM side. I may try to loosen and slide the mounting points at the TM side back ad forth a bit. Maybe that will have a torque effect on where the elbows end up when it folds. Those mounts seem to be spring loaded so the arms and awning flex up and down as it is extended but I see no adjustment for that flex.

Seems as though everyone has good results with these awnings.

See if this helps to solve your awning problem:

http://www.fiamma.it/servizi/servizi.asp?Lingua=EN

Pull down the "Fiammastor repair instruction" menu and select "Arms regulation" which is a small pdf file.

WOW Thanks I think that's exactly the problem! I'm going to bookmark that site.

So it appears there are two adjusters. One adjusts the spring tension that pulls the arms up. The other adjusts the friction of that pivot mechanism. What appears to happen is when the awning gets extended, the arms pivot down and hence the awning slopes. Ideally, when you close the awning, the arms go back to perpendicular and everything fits in. If the tension is not enough to lift the arms or the friction is too great or you let the awning drop unsupported it may not want to go back in. That's my qualitative analysis.
