Default Protective Tape on side of a 2720

I just realized that I am missing the protective tape on one side of the back portion of the trailer that pushes in. It is a teflon-type tape that is 2" wide (high) and about 8' long. Its purpose is to prevent scuffing of the back end of the trailer when you close it.

Any ideas what kind of tape it is, I don't see it at Lowes or Home Depot.

Thanks.

I am not sure about the PTFE, but on the top I have used UHMW Tape. It looks to be a little cheaper than the PTFE, but I can't speak to it's performance but as for the UHMW I have had it on the roof for about 8 years now without any issues.

UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) polyethylene provides a slippery, high-slide, low-friction surface similar to PTFE tape but with higher abrasion and puncture resistance. UHMW tape is much tougher than PTFE and more economical. UHMW is ideal for chutes, liners, packaging lines, slides, and anywhere high-pressure sliding contact occurs. UHMW is great for sound dampening, it eliminates squeaks, rattles, and buzz caused by movement of adjacent parts. Temperature range is -40 to 225°F (-40 to 107°C). UHMW film is FDA compliant for food contact.

Can someone post a picture of where this is used. I have no tape on my 3023 that I can see. Am I missing something and does it come in white? Blue kind of looks out of place I would think.

Thanks
Dave

Dave -

As is often mentioned, the Search tool is your friend. In this case, searching on "UHMW" turns up a number of threads, including these, which have pictures

This tape is not a factory feature. Some owners have done this to make it easier to remove the black marks or stop them from happening.

My 2005 TM 2720 came with the tape on the roof, from the factory.

If I recall correctly, Larry Loo posted some information on various tape options. This would have been around 2005, maybe 2006.

There is a factory feature with the thick tape on each side where the bag seals contacts the sides of the trailer. Many of us have put it on the roof as well (now the factory does it as part of the manufaturing).

Regarding the inside roof area in the front where the seal rubs on the roof, I have used white duct tape. It applies easily, it can be replaced if needed and cleaned as necessary. The UHMW is clear or transluscent at best so I don't see it as an economical fix once wear has taken place, but on a new unit it would be a great precautionary mod.
