Default Wrong Caulk?

Reading the posts about rain leaks causes me to wonder if I made a mistake.

I had a small leak in the rear shell last summer so before putting the TM away for the winter, I pulled out the caulk in several places that looked suspect and just used some garden variety caulk I got at ACE Hardware to replace it. The caulk I used simply says, "Siliconized Acrylic Caulk, Interior/Exterior, for Windows and Doors." Reading the posts here, it sounds like there are a couple of preferred types of caulk that should be used.

It's still too cold to test for leaks so I thought I'd ask here. What should I do?

1. Tear it out and replace it with some of the caulks recommended on this forum?

2. Don't worry about it. It's probably OK but wait and see?

The TM is in the garage, so I could easily work on it now rather than wait. But if it's low probability that I'll have a problem, I don't want to fix something that doesn't need fixing.

Our first trip this year will be in March to Lake Havasu and then Scottsdale. We'll likely encounter some pretty strong thunder-storms that time of year.

Your advice?

Keith

I don't see any upside to pulling it out if it isn't leaking. I'd leave it for a year or two, then pull it out and use a better quality that may give you 5 years.

Lightbulb My vote recommendation is to replace it SOONER,

at your convenience, when the weather is dry.

NOT after you've "detected" caulk failure (via wallpaper failure, bad smells, electrical short...) or some other problem. Nearly ALL of these problems are a slower, messier repair than tearing out the cheap caulk and re-doing it with something built for long-term use in conditions of RV vibration, bad weather, freeway speed winds, and UV exposure.
