Default Another toilet question

I was reading my RV Repair and Maintenance Manual (by Bob Livingston) while camped in the Sierras over the 4th, and I noticed that under maintenance for the Thetford Electra-magic toilet, it says to use 1/4 cup of laundry detergent to a gallon of water and flush it through the toilet. Has anyone tried this? Veronica was all gung-ho to get me to do it, but I wanted to run it by y'all first.

Does this mixture clean the storage tank adequately? What else can I expect that it will accomplish?

Thanks in advance.

Well, the chemicals used in the toilet are to designed control odor and kill bacteria. But apparently they are not as efficient at breaking loose the stuff (to be polite) put into the toilet. The detergent will soften the stuff stuck to the walls where you can't reach it. I have noticed that sometimes I have to manually clean up the stuff stuck in the bowl, just like home. So I wonder what's happening under the bowl. That's my take on it. Haven't tried it, but glad you mentioned it.

According to the Thetford website:

"Aqua-Kem is the most trusted name in holding tank deodorants. It:

Is the world's most popular deodorant.
Supplies the most powerful odor control available today.
Liquefies waste and prevents clogging.
Works around the clock.
Works in all weather conditions, hot and cold.
Helps clean the holding tank walls and drain lines.
Is environmentally safe when disposed of properly. "

I use this method to clean the terlit in our TM. I use the detergent and warm water. I fill the terlit till it flushes. Then I flush it a but. Once (gag) chunks actually came out when flushing. I then dump that, and rinse with clean water.
