2013/2014 Roadside Assistance Programs
It's hard to make an intelligent decision because internet reviews of RV Roadside Assistance Programs are so out of date. Maybe this will help by telling me the most popular plans used in the past two years . . .
Thanks!

We have both CSAA and Good Sam. Besides the road assistance for the TM, Good Sam will also transport DS's motorcycle in case he breaks down. DH likes the maps from CSAA, plus we can go to their office to take care of many DMV tasks instead of going to the DMV and waiting in huge lines.

Adding the TM to our existing AAA Premier coverage was $30 per year so I opted for that. Never looked into the other plans.

Have Good Sam. Don't like it much. May look into AAA.

Just added trailer coverage to AAA, $20/year extra here in Texas. This was our cheapest option since we were already AAA members. But, I have no experience with it (and hope never to!)

A friend at work was telling me that he had some kind of RV/trailer coverage rider on his AAA. Then when going down the road from a campground, on his way home, his tow vehicle developed a brake problem. He called AAA and they told him the rider provides for either a tow of the vehicle or a tow of his trailer, but not both. He was shocked given he had that coverage for years. He decided to have AAA tow the TV and have his brother come and hitch up the trailer since he didn't want to leave it on the side of the road for a few days.
So I don't know if he didn't check the right box for his trailer rider coverage or there is fine print in the policy.

Thanks. I don't remember seeing that distinction but I'll definitely check. It may vary from state to state.

I just spoke to Karen in Membership Services at AAA and asked if the Trailer will be a covered tow should the tow vehicle need to be towed and she said it is covered as long as you have RV coverage.

We have never needed any roadside assistance when pulling a camper. When I had it, I was using it for the things that I could do myself like changing tires or a battery jump. So I oped to save my money and pay as I needed it. Knock-on-wood, for 30 years we have not needed it.
But if I was going to get any road side assistance I would get AAA only because they have such a large network and if you used a network service provider you don't have to put out any cash when you get service. Many of the other providers you have to put out the cash and get reimbursed because they have a small network or no network. Plus AAA has all the other benefits such a trip planning, etc....
