Default Removal of potti odor - guaranteed!

I said I would post a pic of switching out the bathroom fan with an 80mm
computer fan, and this is the post, but more importantly were the near potti
issues involved which puts this in plumbing.

To briefly explain, whatever was there as a potti before was removed, and
2 pieces of 1/2" plywood were used to create a portapotti base. A foam
circle was used as a gasket with plywood supposedly working against it as
a compression seal with the flange below. The spacing was not right and
there was a slight rocking effect which decomposed the foam seal. This was
sort of a subtle stink, but was definitely there in the bathroom. The odor was
not from the portapotti, but from the foam seal deterioration and poor spacing
of the plywood shims which allowed the stink from the short piece of black plastic
pipe below to come up. No holding tank is below, only a short pipe and curved elbow
to the drain valve is there.

Time for the pics to help:

The seal pic shows the 80mm Noctua NFA8 fan installed in the corner, and
the 3" Oatey seal that I put into the flange as a seal. Fan noise is barely
audible, hence the lighted on/off switch. The output vent? is apparently
low volume, so a lower volume fan may be more appropriate. Less likely
to knock itself out, anyway.

The baseshims pic shows the bottom cutout plywood seal that was initially
there, and the 2 additional 3/4" shims for front and back that I made and
added for higher clearance spacing.

The thet365 pic shows the Thetford 365 in place with an added plywood
shim(full base size) and also shows the lighted fan switch I added to replace
the old shorting switch. The additional height makes the 365 much more
comfortable, and its tote bag makes it easier for transport.

My winterizing booklet mentions a toilet, but I have nothing about a toilet.
Maybe the original was the dreamland toilet that Bill talked about in another
post.

This setup will work fine, although I will still be looking an upgrade potti or
toilet that will not have stinky complications. The Thet 365 is a proven
performer and works great for night use. Some manual effort in the process
is better than an unexpected or ongoing stink.

Happy Camping!

I have added a pic that shows "final version" of my Thetford 365 work.
The 365 is inside the Thetford tote bag that is made for it and it will remain in place.
Note that a small white rope is tied to the right side handle of the tote bag, and it
is looped back inside of the water valves and tied to the left handle of the bag similarly.
The rope holds the bag up part-way, and the vent fan in the back corner has ample air.
When it's time to take the 365 out of the camper, simply lift up the handles and carry
it out. No more chest-high carrying of a sloshing weight shifting tank!
The only time that the potti needs to come out of the bag is actually at the dump station.
So, it gets washed when you get home.

This completes my potti project, until winter, and that's a maybe, due to the 365's attributes.
The 5.5 gallon waste tank is more than most cassettes tanks.

Well, I had no intention of becoming a 365 promoter. Things just turned out that way.
