On my 2005 TM 2720 with stock 14 inch wheels and stock Marathons I was able to remove the curb side tire and replace it with the spare without removing the skirt and without popping the shells open.
I had the curb side of the TM raised up high enough with the corner jacks that I was able to lower the tire so that it cleared the TM before it touched the ground.
