Your checklist sounds right.

I agree with John. Reading what you want to do - not worry about weight and be able to do mountain driving, I'd recommend a 1/2 ton pickup.

2000 - 2006 Tundras have a 7500 # GVWR. My 3124kb weighs only 225 # more than the 2720sl and when I weighed my whole setup fully loaded, I had #1000 pounds to spare. That means that towing with 5000# GVWR would not be sufficient for me nor for you. You'll also appreciate the additional hp from a small V8 when going up the grades. I get around 13mpg with mine.

Just my opinion, of course.
