My torsion locks are very snug, but I can open them. So, if I understand correctly. Someone has to stand and put extra downward pressure on both or one shell, by using the foot step to enable you to release the torsion latch? If so thats a bit extreme. There is a way to adjust the latches, but I have not done or needed to do that. I'll let others with experience speak up.
