Don't remember if I have been through Chloride so no help there. There will be campgrounds in Kingman if you are going west. South of the Canyon is Williams or Flagstaff, both have several campgrounds. One thing you will discover about this area is that there is a long way between everyplace! Since I am not at all interested in Skywalk, I would camp at south rim of the Grand Canyon, then camp in Flagstaff. From Flag you could so day trips south, Sedona, Jerome, several national monuments, etc. It is a remarkable area.
