Yeah, sewing is not easy. When I replaced my pop up bed curtains, I ended up drilling 3-4 small holes to get the needle thru each tab before sewing them to the curtain. Made it way easier on my fingers. Glad yer making progress.

Its a steep learning curve. Much harder than the videos make it look like, lol. I bought some leather to redo the couch also but I'm scared of it. Mans got to know his limitations as i struggle with basic curtains...
My neighbor does really beautiful upholstery in his shop so I'm leaning towards letting him do the couch this winter.
