Of late, the DW has slept in the front bed and I sleep in the rear one. I always feel around with my foot to make sure I don't miss the step when I get up in the night for a "plumbing check" of the Thetford. I really don't want to break my 70 year-old leg, or worse.
If I were really concerned about missing the step, I would just spend a few more bucks at Camping World and get another folding step so there would be two of them, side by side.
That sure seems to be a lot simpler than a big modification project on the storage compartment door.
