Witnessed a shuttle launch in the late 80s and like others said the power and the sound just left me speechless with my jaw dragging the ground.
I also witnessed the Challenger explosion from 40 some odd miles away on the east side of Orlando. Was visiting the Martin-Marietta (Lockheed-Martin nowadays, I think) company that day and, needless to say, not much work got accomplished by anyone the rest of the afternoon.
