Can you tunk it down gently with a mallet? Be gentle - don't overdo, you don't want to break anything. I've had this problem, and I'm trying to remember what the solution was. My vague memory says it had to do with the height of the shell, rather than the length of the pin. It is fixable without major repairs - I'll come back if my cloudy memory clears up.
