And like you, I have run the equivalent of an extension cord and comes out right next to the outlet you refer next to the counter. I may just do what you did and tie it into the outlet you did as well. That is really the only place that I tend to use the outlet. Thank you for your detailed reply and pictures. Here is another ATS that may be smaller, easier to install and a lot cheaper. It's only 15A (instead of 30A) but would do everything that you want to do.
It sure is nice to be able to plug into any outlet and have it work and have your inverter protected from 110V back-feed at the same time.
