It has a reservoir of 6 gallons. The OM suggests you fill 1/2 way with water using the bathtub hand sprayer and then you have 3 gallons of waste. Most campers will fill with water until the pump circulates it enough to see it flow which is about 2 gallons and then you have 4 gallons to capture. There is a float dial on the tank motor lid that should be in the green area when it has enough for circulation.
