In my experience, it isn't the brake shoe that make me do a brake job on the TM, but rather the magnet. The magnet is something like $15 or so, but if you replace the magnet, you really want to resurface the face of the drum that contacts the magnet. But most shops don't do that, and so I end up replacing the drum. And if I replace the drum, I want to replace the shoes. Sigh.

It's really not that big a deal though. I do all the labor myself, and so it's only parts, somewhere on the order of $100-$150 per side every 4-5 years.
