I rather like Dick's repair. Looks like they coated the plate with JB Weld or something similar and then secured it to the skin with sheet metal screws. The pull on the anchor is distributed downward and not outward. I have a plate ( albeit larger) similarly attached to the shell of my 2720 with D rings which I use to secure my kayak. Never had any issues.
