First of all, speed is a major factor in fuel economy (not to mention safety), especially when towing. I never tow faster than 60 MPH -- after that, fuel economy takes a big dump.

When I tow our fully loaded 2720SL, ready for camping, with our Toyota Sequoia, I get 12-13 MPG on the highway. Without the trailer, I get about 20 MPG on the highway.
