If the axle is welded to the frame, it's not a hard job to cut through the weld with a 4" angle grinder and a steel cutting wheel. If there are not holes in the axle and body (that line-up perfectly), you should drill your holes before cutting the weld.

There are a lot more benefits to the higher frame than just tire clearance. The holding tank hoses fit much easier, more ground clearance for diveways, easier to put stuff under the camper (including your body, if need-be) etc.
