Good eyesight! I missed that wire. It is red, with frayed copper conductors coming out of the end, and more of the ever-present masking tape. Is the missing main fuse holder hanging off the other end of it? It is possible that the main fuse blew at some point, the previous owner simply clipped it out and connected the cut end to the battery positive terminal. And then, whatever caused the main fuse to blow simply caused another fuse, farther downstream in the converter, to blow.

I'm a little nervous about simply connecting this unknown red wire to the unknown red terminal, but I'm not sure I have any better ideas.
