Wow, that looks like some serious wasp action. Hate wasps and hornets more than anything in the world due to many painful stings suffered as a child.

But we live in GA and I have never seen any nests that look like that. Ours develop usually on the outside eves of any house or structure during the summers. Start small then build up in size if they are not noticed and "treated" early. But ours are usually round in shape and a large one can get 6-8 inches in diameter or more. Have not seen any inside a closed up area or any that look like those in the pictures. Remind me not to move up to New York area.
