Now this information is interesting. The lift arm height adjustment won't affect the gap when closed. Perhaps you could check the big angle bracket through which the torsion bar fits to make sure they are in good shape? Perhaps something blocking the front shell from closing all the way?

I would still take a lift arm height measurement (39.5") to make sure those specifications are correct.
