You are correct in that the jack should not ONLY be powered by the plug. I had not thought of that possibility. Mine is powered either way - I can run off the TM battery OR by the TV battery through the plug.

There are two advantages of using the TV powered plug for the jack. One, some like myself usually turn off the TM battery while shut down in order to save any battery drain; thus, the TM battery will not be available for use on the jack prior to TM setup. Two, use of the TV battery, while the TV's motor is still running, allows the TM battery to retain its charge for use later while camping - especially advantageous when camping without shore power.
