I washed mine in cold water and laid it over my deck railing to dry. I also laid the mattress itself in the sun for several days to freshen it. The foam surface turned from brown back to the original yellow, and the mattress smelled fresh (the entire camper interior had been covered with black soot or smoke). I then replaced the cover with the help of my husband.
