Just an additional note to my thread and Bill's response:
I would recommend using a vinyl sheet or something different in place of the original lauan board. I did such a nice job of putting in a nice replacement thin plywood board. Then another skylight was leaking that I didn't know about and the water got in behind that board again and has rotted it out. I'll be doing the job all over again this spring/summer.
Also, take a look at the vinyl seals and wood inlays on the ends of the shell. If the wood is rotted or if the vinyl is badly worn, this is a very good time to replace them.
I cut new wood inserts (using treated wood) using my table saw and soaked them in end cut sealer. I used Gorilla glue to glue the new wood inserts in to place.
