I'm with Bill. I try to limit the number of steps it takes to set-up and close-down when I do modifications. That "One more thing won't hurt" does hurt because they add up quickly and it becomes inevitable that things get missed.
To me, it's worth my time to figure out mods (like your vent) that don't involve adding another step. I'd rather add 2 more hours to the labor of installing a permanent mod than adding a step that might take 30-seconds.
