I found out that the basic tow package includes "enhanced cooling", transmission cooler, 7 pin plug, and hitch. The Max package adds tow mirrors, more "enhanced" radiator, and some suspension upgrades. How "enhanced" they don't say.

What I am still struggling with is that the 2010 trucks still available tend to have the new 3 valve 4.6 motor. I have towed my 3023 with my 96 F150 with 5.8, 3.55 gears and a 4 speed overdrive trans. No sweat in the mountains, goes into 2nd gear on occassion but mainly use third when climbing.

The 4.6 has more horsepower, (292@5700 vs 210) but slightly less torque, (about 320@4000 vs 325@3500)and both are at higher rpm than my 5.8. That 5700 figure for HP mystifies me. I wonder what the redline is! So, I am wondering if the 4.6 is up to the job. It seems to me that the six speed trans vs 4 speed on the 96 should make a difference...but I can't test drive it with my trailer.

Any thoughts?

Tom
