Default Brake Controller

Before I knew what I was doing I had U-Haul install a brake controller. It was a time controller and that led to some pretty jerky stops. I didn't even know about the safety issues. I upgraded to a Hopkins Insight controller that is inertia based and has the components in 3 separate parts. The digital display I have mounted on my steering wheel column so it's easy to see when it is applying the brakes on the trailer and how much power is going to the brakes. There is a little slider control to adjust sensitivity and power and manually apply the brakes. I have that mounted more accessibly than the old controller which was mounted right by my knee. Then the control module is mounted out of the way. Special bonus for the hybrid - I can adjust the sensitivity so that in light braking where the hybrid brakes aren't engaging and it is just driving the generator and storing electricity for later, the trailer brakes don't come on at all, but when you really need to brake they come on. The sensitivity control is separate from the power adjustment that most controllers have.
