It reduces your propane consumption by quite a bit. It only heats the water that you use, while you are using it. It doesn't heat the water that is sitting in a tank, not being used.
The only draw-back is that you will have to run the water for a few seconds before it gets warm. However, once the water gets hot, you won't run out of hot water unless you run out of propane (or water, of course).
